    tradition the landlords (Murphy) succeeded Leader of Gurteen.
    The land was divided into farms under their guidance. Most of the holding was mountain about a century ago and bog was cut off the major portion of it. The landlord through his agent compelled each tenant to reclaim a field of mountain yearly, and then when the field was re-claimed it was valued, which resulted in the rent being raised from year to year.
    The rent of one particular holding in Charlesfield probably about 80 or 90 years ago was £4 ; and at the time of the evictions in
