Long centuries have passed
But now laus Deo once again,
A holy Cloister rears its head,
By the shores of sweet Lock Lane.
And there within her lonely cell
Kneels Mary Francis Clare,
The modern Ollamh of our isle,
The Nun of sweet Kenmare.VIII
The mantle bright of learning
Which Eugene O’Curry wore,
And John O’Donovan’s great wealth
Of Ancient Gaelic Lore
Have found her in her cloistered cell
By Roughty’s emerald vale,
And inspired her pen when writing
Of the Ancient Clan-na -Gael,IX
And like the olden Masters
Who dwell in Muckross Fane-
That holy Nun toils ceaselessly
With teeming pen and brain,
To snatch Old Ireland’s Annals
From cold neglect and gloom,
Where long they’ve sadly mouldered
