    into the pot. When the feast was ready, Bluett, all impatience, cut open one of the biggest. As he looked he laid down his knife. His face showed surprise, not unmixed with fear.-
    There, clearly outlined in the centre of the potato was the sign of a man's redemption.
    His hand shook as he cut open another tuber. The interior presented the semblance of a bleeding heart. With pale face he rose from the table.
    "They are uneatable," he said. "Take them all away"! "Come with me Rogan, I want to speak to you."
    Dame Elspeth took the cut potatoes and hid them in the bosom of her gown. Out in the garden close by, master and man were in deep conference.
    "I warned you," said the servant. "Aye, I mind me of that. It all comes of leaving those stacks of bones rotting out there. We cannot restore them to their resting places, but we can do something. Think you, would the Friars of Killnamullagh give them house-room?"
    "Of a surety, master. I know where Father Anselm lives."
    "Where he hides- you mean Séamus! Go to him and bring me his answer."
