There are some townlands around this village of Castletownroche with Irish names. There is "Locna" called after two locks that are in the district. "Kilcummer" got its name from the meetings of the waters as the Awbeg meets the Blackwater there."Kilguane" got its name from a Saint that lived there long ago. "Ballyadeen" got its name from a great lady called Aideen. She was married to a grandson of the famous Oisin a leader of the great Fianna. "Convamore" also got its name from the Fianna as they were hunting the deer through these grounds. The deer crossed the river but in the hounds so doing they were drowned as there was a great flood in the river. There is a field called the Camp Field because Cromwell camped there.- Collector
