    In a hospital ward, a young wife lay dying.
    Struck down by a cowardly blow.
    Did your husband strike you? they asked that young wife.
    She should have replied yes or no.
    A magistrate stands by the woman's bedside.
    The question was asked but she had not replied.
    She thought of the days in the sweet happy past.
    And she murmering low, when breathing her last.
    My Bill do you mean him? die he strike the blow.
    My Bill do you mean him? did he strike me? no! no!
    Then her soul passed away to her maker on high.
    And the mercy she's shown she'l receive at His thrown.
