- The Banshee is still believed in by some people. One morning a girl named Nancy Loughlan who lived in Emmet Street, Fermoy was going to the College to work about 6 oclock, a neighbour named Mrs Synott who lived right opposite her house in Grattan Terrace died a short time before the girl left her home. The girl was going towards the College when all at once she was terror stricken by the sound of a lonely cry, this she believed to be the Banshee, she trembled all over with fear. Ever after she was afraid to go the same street before sunrise or after sunset. I heard Nancy Loughlan relating this story to my mother.
