First over the wall again was the Archdeacon, who made a bee-line for the house, where he extracted his 40s, from the terrified widow. The troops retired, their purpose done. Leaving 12 peasants dead and 42 wounded-all for 40s. the inquest lasted 13 days and ended in mixed verdicts. 13 jurymen bringing in a verdict of wilful murder, two manslaughter, and eight were in favour of justifiable homicide.
