You should not use or boil water from a holy well or the timber of any tree growing at the well
You should not use the timber of a tree growing in a church-yard as a hurley. If a person got a wound from such a hurley it would never cure or be very slow in doing so.
An incident (I had a hurley one time made from beech grown in a chapel-yard. During play a boy got a crack across the ankle. There was no wound as the boot gave protection. After a fortnight the ankle festered and kept "running" for 6 months. Twas Mrs Lehane the chapel-woman told me the cause.)
If you go astray at night and cannot find your way-turn your cap or coat inside out and you'll go right. (This was an old recipe if Jackey-the-Lantern put you astray)
If you opened an umbrella over your head inside, you would not have any luck for 10 years.
A man that spares time at a crossing (in a street) may lose it in the hospital.
You should not redden ground on a Monday. (People in the south do not open a grave on a Monday. They redden the grave on a Sunday and complete it on Monday).
You should not cut your nails on a Sunday or you will be worrying for the rest of the week.
It is not right to shake a pot crook (crane)
