  1. Long ago when they had wolfhounds in Ireland the hair on a dog's back stood upright. One night as St. Patrick was going to a king's palace for shelter the wicked dogs rushed out to meet him. When they saw St. Patrick they became gentle. He rubbed down the hair on their backs and ever since a dog's hair never stands up.
