    When the Normans came to Ireland, great tracts of land were given to them. One of the Norman chiefs named "Miles De Cogan" received the southern part of Munster chiefly Cork county. He built a fine castle in the townland of Barnahely. A small tower was also built, so as to guard the castle from the attacks of the enemy.
    When this chief died his skull was preserved, and hung up on a wall over a door of a cottage adjoining the castle. A few years ago it was sent over to England, and a large sum of money was received for it.
