  1. Carrigaline castle is situated in the townland of Carrigaline East.
    This castle was built about the year 700, and was made of bullock's blood mixed with mortar. It was occupied by a chief named Fitzgerald for some time, but he fought with some other chief and was evicted. It was then occupied by Milo De Cogan. In this castle there is an underground passage running along under Shanbally and out into the harbour. By means of this passage the soldiers escaped their enemies.
    His enemies often attacked the castle, but De Cogan nearly always was victorious. The castle was blown up by Cromwell from Drake's Pool, which is about half a mile from the castle. Almost everybody was killed except a few, who escaped through the passage.
