    The wren, the wren,
    the King of all birds.
    On St Stephen’s day,
    he was caught in the furse
    We hunted him up,
    We hunted him down and
    One of our wren boys knocked him down.
    The wren the wren as you may see
    is guarded on the holly tree,
    A bunch of ribbons by his side,
    Ballycotton boys to be his guide.
    Up with the kettle
    Down with the pan.
    Give us our answer
    and let us be gone.
