- Many marriages take place in this district during Shrove that is from January to Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday being the last day for marriages before Lent a lot of them take place on that day. It is regarded as unlucky to get married during the months of May, June and July. Those you marry in May will soon decay. Those you marry in June will die in full bloom and those who in July do wed must labour for their daily bread.
