  1. Travelling folk still visit this district. They are now generally known as "tinkers" or "gipsies". These people have been travelling for many years. Most of them are very poor.
All the tinkers sell small articles, such as, buckets pint quart cans, tables and chairs. People buy a lot of these articles.
Some of the tinkers travel in caravans and others travel on foot. Those that travel on foot seek shelter in farmers' houses or sleep in camps of their own on the side of the road.
Those that travel in the caravans also sleep in them.
They travel mostly in families but sometimes they may be seen travelling singly or in bands.
The best known families in this district are, Hogans, Driscolls, Butlers, and Sheridans.
They usually make their appearance before the local monthly fair.
Some of the gipsies are said to be able to foretell fortunes.
