    Shrove Tuesday.
    The custom on Shrove Tuesday night is for people to go around with a rope and catch any person who is not married and throw them into a river. Pancakes are also eaten on this night.
    St John's Eve
    The custom on St John eve is to light bonfires and then to drive the cattle through them.
    New Year's Eve
    The custom on New Years Eve is to ring out the old year and ring in the new year. At twelve O' clock the people go out and make all sorts of noises and music.
    Fools Day.
    On this day the people try to make fools of one another. It falls on the first of April
    Michaelmas.
    It is on Michaelmas day that the first goose is eaten.
