  1. The old Dungourney hurling team were the best team Ireland ever produced. In nineteen hundred and two they won the championship of Ireland and a year later they beat the London-Irish in Dublin. They also went to Brussels and were also successful there. They were fine, strong, able-bodied men and played under difficult conditions and often ran miles to a train after a hard morning's work, as there were no motor-cars in those days. Mr James Kelleher of Clonmult was said to be the best hurler of them all.
