- Castlemartyr can justly be numbered among the interesting historic places in Ireland. The fertile soil of the countryside, the demesne in particular, made it a coveted possession in such a way that many battles were fought over it. In the sixteenth century it was ruled by the Geraldines who in that same century fought their own kinsman. Ormond hanged(continues on next page)
