- Shrove-time is the usual time for people to get married. Many people like to get married on Shrove-Tuesday, as it is the last day. Match-making was very common about a hundred years ago. A certain person introduced a Match, and the Match was made before the girl or the man knew each other. Then the girl or the man that was going into a farm, had to bring a dowry or fortune, which meant cattle, sheep and in most places money.
