  1. Shanagolden is the nearest village to our townland of Kilcolman. The patron saint of Shanagolden is saint Senan. I shall now tell you what I heard of this great saint.
    Saint Patrick did not come to Clare, but he blessed it across the Shannon from Knock Patrick in Limerick. The people of Clare went across the Shannon, and begged of him to come over, but he would not come. He said they themselves would have a saint. In the year 488 the saint prophesied by saint Patrick was born in Scattery Island.
    St. Senan was a prince, and was very rich, but he gave up all his riches and became a priest. he went to Rome to be educated, but his one wish was to return to Ireland. When he was crossing from the continent to Ireland, a great storm arose, and the sailors being frightened, they went to the cabin where saint Senan was, and they told him of the danger they were in.
