When the crop has fully grown the potatoes are rooted out with a spade and are picked up according as they are dug.
During the Winter they are stored in pits made of earth but they should be turned to break away the shoots of the potatoes and throw out any potatoes if they are decaying.
Spades are bought in the shop I never saw a home made spade.- Collector
