- When the church in Temple Athea was burned in the Penal Days mass used be said privately in a cave. The cave is about three hundred yards from this school in the land of Costello formerly owned by Colbert. It is supposed that Bishop De Lacey's mother who lived in Clash used come to hear mass in this cave and she had to cross a ford in the river Galey where there is a bridge at present.
