Old Crafts. The industries carried on in my district long ago, were candle making, basket making, spinning, dyeing and whip making. The fat was first put into a grisset and melted and the wick were put into a mould, and the candle was brought out in the right shape. Baskets were also made in the district with briars and sally rod, and they were weaved into each other by a basket maker. Thatching was done in the district with rushes and scallops, but reed is used now. Whips were made with horse skin and sheep skin. Lime was made with lime stone. The lime stone was broken and made into lime for white washing.- Collector
