    family, but it is not known how long back. There were three shoe-makers in the district in former times. The reason of the change is that in almost every county of Ireland, boots are manufactured nowadays, and shoe-makers get no sale for theirs.
    Clogs were worn, but were not made locally. They are not worn in the district now. Leather was not made at any time, in my district. Foot coverings were made from kid, and what they wore before boots became common, were pieces of rags, tied with hay ropes, around the foot, and the boots that were worn, were called high lows, and there were only two eyelets in them.
