    The kiln itself was built pot-shaped, having a depth of about twelve to eighteen feet, and a circumference of six or eight feet. They were built of stone and mortar but some were built of brick. At the present day a kiln exists in a place called Renahoun, which was built of brick, at a cost of about one hundred pounds even when material was cheaper that it is at the present day.
