    families were noted for their victories in faction fights such as the Lynchs of Kilmeedy in the County Limerick. One morning one of the Lynchs went out in the road and he saw a tramp with a fine black-thorn stick. "Give me that stick" said Lynch to the tramp, "I will not" said the tramp. "What about it if I made you" said Lynch, "You could not find a man with a better heart to do so if you are able" said the tramp. "All right" said Lynch. They started to fight and it was not long until the tramp got the better of Lynch. "Come in the breakfast is ready." They went into the house and the tramp gave the stick to Lynch and the tramp stayed at Lynch's house for some time. About that time a man came from County Cork riding
