- The old people lived on three meal a day, the breakfast in the morning, the dinner about two o'clock p.m. and the supper late at night, and they consisted of potatoes and sour milk. When the potatoes were all eaten barley bread was used as a substitude. On Thursdays and Sundays meat was only eaten.
Potato cake and eggs, pancakes, etc. were eaten on certain occasions. Tea and coffee were both introduced into the district about sixty years ago by Nancy Regan who lived on Cairn hill.- Collector
