    supposed to be too much and so they abandoned it.
    Instead of continuing this work they made the road from Kilmallock to Newcastle West. The hire of a man for a day was seven pence. In Coolrea the land belonged to a famous jockey known as John Lyons the jock and the road was first a double ditch and he knocked it and the road was started but never finished and the same ditch has been built up again and the road started.
