- There are a lot of holy wells in this district. There is a well in Nanthenane called St. James's well. Nanthenane is about 3 miles from the town on the road to Askeaton. The well is in a field about two hundred yards from the road on the left-hand side of the road. There is a little chapel beside the well. They say, if anyone has a disease, and if they see fish three times in the well they will be cured.
There is a man in this town who was nearly blind in one eye, and he went to the well to see if he would be cured. When he got to the well he said the Rosary, and as he was praying he saw the fish. A short time after that the eye got better. - You are not logged in, but you are welcome to contribute a transcription anonymously.
