    towards the river and disappeared. One day a man was passing by and never saluted the smith. After wards he tried to lift the anvil and in doing so broke his arm. Some say it was because he saw no sparks.
    There was a forge at the cross road dividing Ballycanana from Mitchelstown on the way to Askeaton. It was small, had a thatched roof, and an oblong door. It belonged to Jack Noonan.
