   In winter thy banks are all covered with snow.
   An 'mid the wild rushes the stormy winds blow.
   Thy waves lash ye together and rise up quite high.
   To roll on the beach with a murmur and sigh,
   The larks and linnets are crouched on the lea.
   While the red breast alone gaily sings on the tree.
   The wild roar rushes oer woodland and crag
   Flow on to the Shannon, flow on lovely Mague.

   In summer thy waters are calm and serene.
   The trees on thy banks are all flowering and green.
   The wild birds are singing in every green bush.
   Methinks I now hear the wild notes of the thrush.
   On thy banks, gently Mague, play the rabbit and hare.
   From Shannon's wild shore to the town of Adare.
   In the calm hour of evening they play 'mong the flowers.
