- The oldest school in this parish was situated at Ballinacarriga in a place known as the lane about 130 years ago. A man named Mr Burke was teaching in it. Reading and writing were taught in it. It was a small thatched house in which the teacher lived.

- There was a chapel at the White forge cross long ago. Children used to go to school to it. Mr Crowley used to teach in this chapel. The schoolars used to clean every Saturday to have it ready for(continues on next page)
