at Adare ravaged the country along the River Maigue and all went well until they came to (Ballycal) Ballyculhane. The Purcells gained the victory. The few that (were left) escaped carried the news to Adare. So after a while a stronger force were sent to take revenge on the Purcells. They attacked the Castle and after a prolonged struggle broke the wall. Rushing in they slew everyone they found not sparing women children or the aged.
