  1. Almost all the land in the district round Pallaskenry belonged to the Fitzgerald Family, kins-men to the Earl of Desmond. They held their own land under him, and even after his banishment and death, they held the Castle call the Palace now Shanpallas. But after this an other castle had been reduced by Cromwells troops under Sir Hardress Waller, about 1650, most of this land was granted to Sir Hardress Waller.
    After the restoration all the land in the possession of Sir Hardress Waller was confiscated, (save Castletwon which belonged to his wife in her own right,) and granted to James Duke of York, afterwards James 2nd of England, by his brother Charles 2nd. After the banishment of James it was sold in lots to John Bury, to the Hollow Sword Blades company, Sir Drury Wray, Phineas Bury and others.
    Portion of Ballinacarriga, Carheeny, and Ballyculhane, was held by a lady named O'Brien, at half-crown per acre, in the year 1700.
    Mountiford Westropp settled in Limerick, in 1655, and became comptroller of it part. He bought several Estates in Co. Clare. His son bought, Mellon
