  1. (continued from previous page)
    'twas beginning to fall.
When in the direction of Dooley's I heard a cow giving a ball.
I quickly retreated for Dooley's, just thinking that she might be there-
'Twas the wan I put into the cowhouse, and she making for home like a bear
I continued on in my journey, never thinking of finding the grey
But when I arrived in Kilcurley, they were both lying down atin' hay.
And let this be a warning to drovers, whenever they're going to a fair.
And as long as I live I'll remember the night I was going to Adare.
(This was given to me by Mce Devaney, whose father's name was mentioned. Kilcurley is a townland adjoining Kildonnel. Adare - on this occasion, Drehidtarsna in that parish - was a night stop' to the fair, that is a sort of half-way house, where both men and beast were kept by a friend against the fair in the morning at the neighbouring town of Rathkeale. Mr. Marshall not only composed, but sang his song at the dances. I have no doubt that some of his songs were composed for the dances. D.O'C.)
