    3rd Stanza
Oh then I longed like 'prisoned bird
    To 'scape captivity
I could not bear to be immured
When they were lost to me
I longed to tread my native hills
    Where healthful breezes blew
And cool my lip at their bright rills
As I was wont to do.
    4th Stanza
I cam again, but soon I grew
Full sick of home as well,
The friends in early life I knew
    By hillside green and dell
Alas were gone, that cherished spot
    Was now one dreary waste,
And then methought it mattered not
    Where ever I was placed.
