  1. There is a story told, that on the north side of the hill of Knockcarron about three miles from the village of Emly there is a single white-thorn bush. The place is known as the "Seibheál."
    Some years ago a man from the locality had a dream, on three consecutive nights that a quantity of gold and a precious stone were buried there. With two companions he decided to dig up the earth at the place indicated in his dream. They started digging at twelve o'clock midnight. They had not proceeded very far when a very small man wearing a red cap appeared. This man warned them to stop. As the man was so small they decided to continue working. They soon scratched a large stone. Then the little man became very excited and gave a blast on a horn he carried. In return to the blast
