- Basket making was a very common trade in the old days. It is carried on still but on a much smaller scale. Mr Boucher, of Old Street, Galbally is a well-known basket maker. He collects sallies on the river banks and knits them together. The only tool he uses is a knife. He sells the baskets to the farmersThatching is an ancient trade but it is carried on extensively still.
Mr Scully of Lisard and Mr David Moloney are the best known thatchers in this district. They thatch with straw and scollops.- Collector
