On May Eve the pishogues were made. One person strove to take his neighbours butter, milk or cream by the help of the devil. The people who had this power were people who had sold their souls to the devil.
The pishogues were made in various ways and one favourite way was through the lending of plough-irons. Another way was to take a supply of hairs from each cow's tail and make a spancel. Take this home with you and the person who had the spancel got the produce of the man's milk from whose cows the hairs were pulled.
One day a man from Anglesboro was returning home from Mitchelstown and he saw a hair-spancel on the road. He jumped down off the load and picked it up. When he reached home he threw the spancel into an old barrel in the yard and forgot all(continues on next page)- Informant
