Bonfires are lighted St. John's night with sticks, turf & borawn (dried cow's manure), hay, straw, old tyres.
It is a night of great fun as the boys cheer & make merry and look out from hillock to hillock to see their friend's bonfire
No work, in the meadow or elsewhere is done on Lady Day 15th Aug. as it is supposed to be unlucky.
