- An old hedge school Brackile.
There was an old hedge school in Lough. It was seated at the top of a hill. Long ago people used to go to that school there.
They used sods of turf for seats. They used quill pens for writing . They made ink from elder berries. Every day they used to play on the rocks of the hill.
They used bits of boards for blackboards.
There was a galvanised roof on the school. .A teacher came there and taught the children reading, writing and arithmetic. Irish was poorly taught at that time.
