    Long ago the football matches use to be played differently to what they are now. In olden times twenty-one players used to play on each team.

    The men who were picked long ago for hurling or football matches were the strongest and liviliest men of each parish. This was because the games used to be won by getting the ball inside their own boundary and a weak or bad running man was useless.
