    stormy and rainy weather is almost near at hand the reason of which might be thought to be that these animals, sensible, if a current of air approaching from the ocean, retire to the land to shelter themselves from the storm There is a tale told about the robin and how it happened that his breast is red. Once upon a time there was but one fire in the far North part of the world where it is very cold. The people loved this fire and set a man and a boy to watch it in turns and to put fresh wood on it when it was low and to make sure above all things to keep it burning. If the fire went out there was no way to kindle it again the poor people had no matches or no other lights. There was one dweller of the North who hated this fire and hoped that some day the man or the boy who watched it would grow careless and fail to keep it lighting. This was the great white bear who lived near the icy seas. This white bear thought that if the fire went out the people would have to go away and leave him to fish and hunt alone.
