Having heard of Fr. Hickey's denunciation, Coote wrote to ask him if the report was true. The P.P. told him it was & invited him to seize & sell his cattle. "I'd like to see", Fr. Hickey said, "the man who would buy them." Coote resolved to fight it out with the priest, & next morning sent his bailiff at the break of day to take & impound one of Fr. Hickey's cows.
Public notices were put up that on a day & at an hour named the cow would be sold at the village of Bilboa by public auction.
(Note.) Bilboa is about two miles from Doon. There is a bridge over the River Bilboa at this spot of the river & village is supposed to have got their names from the ford there before the present bridge was built.
