    cabbage was being cooked. Some of the boys slipped out, climbed the back of the house, let down a strong piece of wire with a turn on the end of it through the chimney. With the wire, they lifted up the pot, took out the bacon, let the pot down again and returned to their usual seats.
    After some time, Jack went to take up his supper. He made several prods with a fork for the bacon. He said to the boys. "The bacon that is going now is the moste peculiar I ever saw but sure, it is all the same if it has boiled away, I will have all the strength of it in the cabbage."
