I.
On the 30th of September, in the year of '34.
I started out to see a pal, but he went the day before.
Then alone and plain, I took the train, or at least the train took me.
To Dublin town, of high renown, the hurling match to see.II.
When I arrived, the crowd was great. I could not count them all.
I thought that all, now dead and gone were up for the last call.
And still the trains came steaming in, and the popular compass showed.
