Between nine and ten Reynard came for his hen.
And straightened right up for the bog.
The dirty blaguard came into the yard.
And soon was attacked by the dog.
The night it had cleared, and the moon disappeared.
And out of the ground came a fog.
The divel such sport, through Manery's old fort.
Was Reynard, and Jackey's old dog.
Jackey in so he cried "Tally-ho", and went up for Simon (?).
Down then they went, but they couldn't get scent.
For Reynard was gone through the grass.
Said Jackey, "I am in dread that my old dog is dead.
But the fox, I gave him a sog.
But between you and me, at the old sally tree.
The fox got the best of the dog".
Reynard took it cool, after fighting his duel.
And off to Greenmount to his den.
And soon left the plains for the shore of Loughmore.
In search of another old hen.
Such a dangerous fight they had on that night.
Between the fox and the dog.
