The pheasant and partridge give great pleasure to shooting parties during the shooting season. The partridge and pheasant build in a hole in the ground, under a small tree or bush where there is shelter.
The swallow, cuckoo and corncrake, come to Ireland in April and they leave in August to go to warm lands.
It is a pity so many boys take such pleasure in robbing birds' nests and some boys will not stop even when they are told that the mother bird will die also.
There are many signs as regards the weather connected with birds. When wild geese cross and recross each other it is a sign of frost, if it is going to rain the swallows fly low.
