William Heenan aged about sixty, farmer, Crossanagh, Terryglass, native of parish. Got the information from his father about fifty years ago. William's father aged about fifty then, and also a native of the parish. - (c) The cutting of turf for sale in districts where no bogs abounded was carried on largely in Terryglass. Men, at the time (about fifty years ago) were great turf-cutters and they vied with one another as to which slane's [?] man could cut the greatest number of "kish" of turf in the day.
Men worked from sunrise to sunset during the turf-cutting season, and whatever was made by the sale of turf was hard earned.
Boats called at Terryglass quay to take away this turf to Youghal, Nenagh.John Parkinson, Slevoyre, Borrisokane, farmer. Aged about fifty. Native of district.- Informant
