  1. Local Proverbs

Spare the nod and spoil the child.

    May Kelly,
Lisheen, Eglish. My father Michael Kelly told me these Local Proverbs.
Spare the rod and spoil the child.
A clean fast is better than a dirty breakfast.
A stitch in time saves nine.
    A watched-pot never boils.
It's hard to take breeches off bare hips.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
A man cannot whistle and eat meal at the same time.
    Least said soonest mended.
Live in my heart and pay no rent.
The earliest bird catches the worm.
You'd steal the cross off an ass's back.
Show me your company and I'll tell you what you are.
There are three without rules - a mule, a pig and a woman.
Just as day broke butter broke.
Like an Irish wolf she barks at her shadow.
When the fruit is scarcest its taste is sweetest.
