- There is an old ruined castle called Ballyfinboy castle, situated about a mile from this town, Borrisokane. This castle is in the Parish of Borrisokane, the Barony of Lower Ormond, and the County of Tipperary. It is said that this castle was built by the Anglo-Normans. There is a river running by its side, which is called the Ballyfinboy river. Inside the castle there is an old stone stairs which leads on to the roof, but some of the steps have broken away now. On the outside of the castle there is a flat stone with a drawing of a woman on it. There are long narrow slits in the side of the castle through which the soldiers could see their enemies, and right inside the slits are places where the guns were placed when the soldiers were shooting.I, Maisie Murphy, Main St, Borrisokane, got some of this information from the people in the district of Borrisokane.
